Girls, I'm seriously Anjay! I had just scrolled past a post about President Jokowi taking his family out to eat[1], and then I discovered this incredible spot is actually in Depok, and the prices are so cheap I thought I misread the menu! This is a must-go!
The moment you walk in, you feel like you've been instantly transported to a Sundanese village. The individual small thatched huts are private rooms, and right below your feet are fish ponds with trickling water. The atmosphere is totally on point. The environment is really Chill, perfect for bringing the whole family to Nongkrong. The best part is, you can also spend 5k Indonesian Rupiah on fish food to feed the fish[2]. For all the girls who bring their kids, you can totally free up your hands—the kids can play all afternoon!
We ordered their signature dishes, and I have to give a special shout-out to the Empal Goreng Kremes[3] (fried beef), it was truly Mantap! The beef wasn't tough, and the Kremes (crispy crumbs) on top mixed with rice is simply divine. Their Ayam Bakar Madu[4] (honey grilled chicken) is also very flavorful, with that sweet and savory taste that Indonesians love.
But to be fair, don't get your hopes up too high. I've also heard from friends that some of their dishes are just so-so[5]. For example, the oxtail soup we ordered this time wasn't hot enough when it arrived, so that's a small minus. Also, some of the man-made streams and fountains in the restaurant were dry, which was a bit of an eyesore[6]. Hopefully, the owner can get them maintained soon.
