It was packed with locals and veterans, all squeezed together, bustling with noise and steaming hot. There's no queue line; everyone relies on their sharp eyes, guarding tables that are almost finished like statues[1]. I thought to myself at the time, all for one serving of fish? Is it really worth it?
After much effort, I finally snagged a seat. No need to look at the menu, because for over 80 years, they've only sold one set meal[2]: fried fish, fish head soup, served with a small bowl of rice. The serving speed, however, was incredibly fast. A large piece of fried fish was golden and glistening, and the fish head soup was a vibrant yellow, shimmering with spicy oil.
I first picked up a piece of fried fish; the skin was crispy, but honestly, the fish meat itself was a bit bland[3]. The real star of the show, however, was that spoonful of Sambal chili sauce, deified by countless people[4]! Anjay! It was spicy, fragrant, and had a wonderful sweet and sour kick.
