Honestly, before coming to Garut, a friend was hyping up this Sundanese place to me like crazy, saying the atmosphere was absolutely killer. At first, I was a bit skeptical—I mean, it's just a Rumah Makan, how over-the-top could it be?
But when we pulled up to the entrance, I was stunned. This isn't a restaurant, it's practically a small nature park! The kid went wild the moment we walked in, ran straight for the children's playground, and was impossible to pull away. So, how's the food?
After sitting down and ordering, the main event was, of course, the dish it's named after: Sambal Cibiuk[2]! Chili heads will be in ecstasy. There are several types of sambal with free refills, served with complimentary vegetables. I could finish a whole bowl of rice with just that, Mantap!
We also ordered the classic Nasi Liwet[3]; the rice was fragrant and very authentic. But to be honest, the main courses were a bit hard to describe… The signature grilled fish (Gurame)[4] came out half-burnt and blackened, Anjay… The other grilled chicken dish was also on the dry and tough side. Seems like the chef's performance is a bit inconsistent. 😅
