Anjay! Do young people in Medan not have to work?! Came to Mula Medan with friends over the weekend, and wow, the line at the door was so long I thought I was at a concert[1]. The hype on TikTok is no joke[2].
After squeezing in, the ambiance is truly Mantap! The pure white, minimalist design has amazing natural light, kind of gives you the feeling of nongkrong at a Bali cafe, and it's super photogenic. We placed our order, and the food came out pretty fast because you order and pay yourself by scanning a QR code[3], which gets a thumbs up from me.
Desserts are divine, but the main courses… emmm
Let's get straight to the point: If you have a sweet tooth, just go for it!
The Brûlée Burnt Cheesecake[4] we ordered was absolutely incredible. It has a crispy caramelized layer on top with melt-in-your-mouth cheesecake underneath. It's sweet but not overwhelming, so good it could make you cry! And that super cute French Crème Brûlée Crepe[5], both its looks and taste were on point. Recommended!
BUT! To be honest, their main courses are a bit hard to put into words… My friend's Cola Chicken Rice[6] was so salty it made them question their existence, and the portions are generally on the small side. I felt like the chicken I ordered was a bit "hollow" when I bit into it[7]. The value for money isn't great. For those of you who want a full meal, you might want to grab a bite somewhere else first. 😅
