Anjay, trying to eat at a popular spot in Malang is so hard! My friend recommended Warung Seblak Mamang Ndut like a million times, saying if you don't eat here, you might as well have not come. The flavor is seriously addictive, but there are some downsides
After finally squeezing in, the place was pretty cozy, with a homey feel. There's an air-conditioned area and an outdoor spot to nongkrong[1]. Although it seemed a bit small because of the crowd, the atmosphere was still warm and welcoming.
Didn't even need to look at the menu, I went straight for the signature Seblak[2]. You can choose your own toppings and also decide on the spice level. As a foodie like me, I definitely had to try their new green chili soup base, “Kuah Eneng”[3]. The moment the soup arrived, that rich aroma of galangal (kencur) hit me right away, so authentic! They were really generous with the ingredients, a huge full bowl. They really nailed the value for money[4]. My friend's Nasi Goreng Paporit[5] was also amazing, a perfect balance of savory and fragrant. It wasn't one of those half-assed tourist fried rices, Mantap! 👍

As for the taste... it's a matter of personal preference. Although the kencur flavor is very authentic, a friend who's a long-time fan complained that compared to the taste he first had at the small Betek stall, it has been modified too much now[6]. For example, the sweet and spicy flavor is too sweet, and the savory and spicy one has too strong of a spice taste. And the service was really... hard to describe. During peak hours, the staff was clearly overwhelmed. We called for them for ages with no response, and they even got our order wrong[7], which was a bit of a turn-off.
