Took the whole family, young and old, to Sentul over the weekend. I wasn't expecting much, but when we drove up to the entrance of The Kluwih Heritage, I was completely blown away by this massive bamboo and wood structure. This isn't just a restaurant, it's practically an art gallery, right? The high ceilings, the large floor-to-ceiling windows, the atmosphere was just perfect, and it's super photogenic. Just for the ambiance, I felt the trip was already worth it. 📸
Since there were a lot of us, we just went ahead and ordered all their signature dishes. To be honest, the portions are truly massive, perfect for sharing. That Bakwan Jagung (corn fritter)[1] was definitely the star of the show! It was bigger than my face, fried to be crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the sweetness of the corn was super prominent. And then there's the Nasi Kecombrang (torch ginger rice)[2], the aroma was so unique, served with anchovies and basil leaves, I could have finished a whole plate by myself. Anjay, Mantap! 👍
But the main event, the Gurame Bakar (grilled fish)[3], was a bit of a miss... We ordered it based on others' recommendations, but ours had a faint muddy taste, which was a bit disappointing. I don't know if it was just a one-off thing, but the friends with me also thought it was just so-so.
To be perfectly honest, if you're coming for that rich, authentic Sundanese flavor you'd find in old Bogor shops, you might be a little disappointed. The seasoning here leans towards the sweet side and lacks that 'nendang' (kick)[4]. Also, the prices are mid-to-high range; the four of us spent around 500,000 IDR. Oh, and they actually charge extra for parking and takeaway plastic bags, which was kind of a turn-off...🤷♀️

- Don't go during peak meal times! Waiting forever in line on weekends and holidays is the norm[5]. I suggest going at an off-peak time like 3 or 4 PM, or just come on a weekday.
- Be strategic about seating: Want those atmospheric seats by the fish pond? There's a minimum charge, around 300,000 IDR[6]. But the view is indeed great.
- Good news for coffee lovers: After your meal, you can seamlessly transition to the Kopi Nako next door. You can order right from your table, no need to move to a new spot to Nongkrong[7]. Their coffee ice cream is to die for!
- Manage your expectations: This place is mainly about family gatherings and the overall experience. Don't expect every dish to be Michelin-star quality. Think of it as a place for the whole family to relax, take photos, and Chill for an afternoon, and your experience will be much better.
