Just got back from Bandar Lampung, and I have to give you the scoop on the insanely popular Jaya Bakery Royal! It's no exaggeration to call it the nation's bakery. The entrance was packed with motorcycles and cars, and once I got inside, my indecisiveness went into overdrive…
The scene was basically a carb lover's paradise! Rows of shelves were piled high with all sorts of bread, cakes, and traditional Indonesian snacks (jajanan pasar), and the aroma was amazing. The prices were so cheap I thought I was seeing things; a regular loaf of bread starts at just 5,500 rupiah[1], so you can shop without feeling any guilt!

I went straight for the super-hyped signature red velvet cake[2], which was only 10k rupiah a slice! The texture was dense and moist, the sweetness was just right, and paired with the cream cheese frosting, it was truly Mantap! Totally worth the price.
