I've been running around East Jakarta a lot lately and was looking for a place to Nongkrong and work. I came across this place, Scent Coffee, on the map with a high rating of 4.8. Seeing how spacious and bright it looked in the photos, I thought, isn't this a WFC paradise?[1] So I went for it without hesitation!
The space is Mantap, but the real surprise is the snacks!
As soon as I walked in, the sense of space was truly Mantap! The ceilings are high, there are large floor-to-ceiling windows, and with the sunlight streaming in, I felt totally Chill. The design has that clean, modern style, and any picture you take looks great.[2] It's divided into an air-conditioned smoking area and a non-smoking area, which is a big plus. The WiFi signal is super stable; I had several tabs open and they all loaded instantly. You could definitely spend an afternoon typing away here with no problem.[3]
I didn't have high hopes for the food at a coffee shop, but the Pisang Goreng[4] recommended by a friend was absolutely divine! The outside is fried to a perfect crisp, but not hard at all, and the banana inside is perfectly ripe, sweet, and soft. This is what champion-level fried banana should be like! Anjay! For my drink, I ordered the Hazelnut Latte[5], which was also pretty good. The hazelnut flavor blended smoothly with the coffee; it's a safe bet.
The main courses are a disaster, and the service is a gamble...
BUT! Friends, here comes the important part. Aside from the fried banana, the main courses are really hard to describe... I tried a bite of my friend's burger, and the patty was so salty I had to chug two mouthfuls of water...[6] Some people also said their palm sugar coffee tastes watered down. I didn't order it, so any of you girls who've had a bad experience with it can share in the comments.
The service is also hit-or-miss. It was fine when I went, but I've heard from friends who encountered grumpy staff and even had to wait an hour for their food.[7] As for the price, a Caramel Macchiato is 36k[8]. For this part of East Jakarta, the value for money really isn't that high.
