Lately, my IG feed has been flooded with this place called Broadway, which claims to be Tangerang's "Little New York"[1]. The photos looked so colorful, with vintage streetscapes, and the vibe was just off the charts. I was so tempted, so I dragged my friends to check it out over the weekend. The result... let's just say, social media really does come with a filter.
To be fair, the environment is truly impressive. The whole area is designed like a vintage American street, especially in the evening when the neon lights turn on. Every casual snapshot looks like a blockbuster photo[2]. There's also Live Music[3] on the street. You can just find a spot to sit and Nongkrong, enjoying the evening breeze and listening to the music. It's really Chill. But! Here comes the important part: the food! This place is essentially a large food court, and the choices are quite diverse. We randomly ordered a few things, and the taste was just... very average. It feels like everyone's main mission here is to take photos, and eating is just a side quest to fill their stomachs.[4]
Let me complain a bit more: going on a weekend, you'll seriously be put off by the crowds![5] The entire street is packed solid. Want to take a clean solo picture? It's a real test of your quick-shot skills. Also, the whole place feels a size smaller than it looks in photos. And if you go during the day, with Jakarta's weather... you know what I mean, it's so hot you'll question your existence, Anjay![6] Oh, right, they also charge a 30k entrance fee on weekends. Although they give you a 25k voucher, it still makes you feel a bit "huh?".[7]
