Deep in Sulawesi, I didn't have high expectations for coffee shops, after all, it's not Jakarta or Bali. But, I was completely blown away by this place, ToRi Coffee, in the center of Rantepao! 🤯 It's exactly what "The Pride of Toraja"[1] should be like.
Vibe and Flavors
I was amazed the moment I walked in. It has that comfortable, modern tropical style, and it perfectly blends local Torajan carvings and wall art elements. Any corner is super photogenic. Rattan chairs, green plants, plus warm lighting—the whole vibe is just maxed out. It's perfect for coming with friends to Nongkrong for an afternoon.
Back to the main topic—the coffee. I'd crown it the best I've had in Toraja! The V60 pour-over is absolutely amazing[2], the flavor is exceptionally pure and clean. Coffee lovers, you have to try it! But there's one small complaint: the Americano my friend ordered was a bit weak, like coffee-flavored water… Anjay.

Oh right, it can get a bit stuffy indoors during the day, not sure if the AC isn't strong enough. Friends who are sensitive to smoke should also be aware, the separation between their smoking and non-smoking areas isn't very clear[6], so sometimes the smoke drifts over.
