Anjay! Who said East Jakarta is a food desert? A couple of days ago, I went to Jatinegara with a friend, not expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised by JTOWN Food Center. This place is practically a new Nongkrong spot tailor-made for the people of East Jakarta!
East Jakarta's New"Community Living Room," So Chill You Won't Want to Leave
The vibe felt right as soon as I walked in. It's a two-story, semi-open space with a super relaxed atmosphere[1]. It's not like one of those stuffy malls; it's more like a huge community living room. You can come in flip-flops, or you can have a meeting with a client here, and it wouldn't feel out of place at all.
The food options are so plentiful it's hard to choose. From the national favorite Solaria and Fore Coffee to Papa Ron's Pizza, they basically have everything you'd want to eat[2]. I made a special trip to check out the legendary Pisang Madu Bu Nanik[3]. The fried banana was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, coated in honey. One bite and it was truly Mantap! I feel like a lot of people come here specifically for it.
And this place isn't just a food court, it's practically an event hub! I scrolled through their IG, and they're always up to something—one minute it's a Christmas party, the next it's a toy car race, plus running events and various markets[4]. It feels like there's something different 7 days a week; they really know how to have fun!
But Hold On, I Have to Complain About a Few Things!
After all that praise, let's get real. With the semi-open design, going in the afternoon is so hot you'll question your existence☀️. I felt like my makeup was going to melt any second. I suggest everyone go in the morning or evening; the experience will be much better[5].
And then there's the parking! There are plenty of parking spots, but the price is the same as a mall's. Plus, one of my friends complained to me that when she was paying for parking, she tapped her card a few extra times and ended up getting charged multiple times[6]!
