The place isn't small, it has two floors. But as soon as I walked in, I was stunned. The entire first floor is an open kitchen, and the oil smoke was so thick it was choking. I felt like I'd walked into the back kitchen of a Chinese restaurant, and my clothes instantly reeked. Girls, if you're going, take my advice: head straight to the air-conditioned area on the second floor[2], otherwise, you'll be marinated in the smell by the end of your meal.
Ordering was also a workout; you have to queue at the cashier. There are no menus on the tables, which led to everyone deliberating for ages at the cashier, making the line so long it made you question your life choices[3].
The Food... Hard to Describe
I ordered their signature Crispy Fried Egg (Telur Dadar Krispi)[4] and the very popular Squid Rice (Nasi Cumi)[5].
First, about the egg: it looked decent, a big golden piece. But! It was only lukewarm! And so greasy it was cloying, felt like it had been fried a long time ago and lost its soul. Then the squid rice, that was even more of a heavyweight. The squid was cold and tough, I chewed until my jaw ached, like rubber bands. The most outrageous thing was, even the rice was cold[6]! Eating in Indonesia for so many years, this is the first time I've encountered a restaurant serving cold rice. I was petrified on the spot 🗿.
