It's hidden inside a small hotel in North Jakarta, the sign is pitifully small[2], and the entrance looks completely unremarkable. Who would've thought this place was a hidden gem, hiding an owner from Lahore, Pakistan[3] and his hometown-style kitchen.
The flavor is truly Mantap! A carb lover's dream come true
As soon as I sat down, I got straight to the point and went for their Chicken Masala[4]! That gravy was absolutely incredible, so thick it could coat the spoon. The flavors of ginger, garlic, and black pepper hit you right away, but it wasn't so rich that you'd get tired of it. Paired with rice or bread, I could devour three bowls of it!
Next up was the much-hyped potato-stuffed flatbread, the Aloo Paranthas[5]. Oh my god, it was soft yet chewy, the filling was seasoned just right, and when dipped in their homemade yogurt, one bite and I was instantly transported back to... well, even though I've never been to Punjab, it felt like the kind of flavor your grandma would make for you in her kitchen. So heartwarming and comforting. ❤️
The most Anjay thing was, the Biryani we originally wanted to order was sold out, so we just randomly ordered the Indonesian Fried Rice (Nasi Goreng)[6]... and it turned out to be so delicious that a few of us were fighting over it! The portion was huge, it had that amazing smoky aroma from the wok, and they were generous with the chicken and vegetables. I never expected a Nasi Goreng from a Pakistani restaurant to be this competitive. 😂
After all those rich flavors, you have to get a cup of the Punjabi-style extra-strong milk tea, Doodh Patti Tea[7], to cleanse your palate. It's super smooth, the tea and milk flavors are perfectly balanced, so comforting!
As for the ambiance, the place isn't big, but it's clean and the AC is strong[8]. The owner and staff are super nice[9], giving it a chill vibe like you're visiting a friend's house.
But don't rush over just yet, take my advice
To be fair, this place is new and small, after all. If you go during peak meal times, popular dishes like the Biryani we wanted to eat might be sold out[10], and we waited for a long time but still didn't get to try it. So, for my friends who want to try the popular dishes, either go early or just be zen about it and eat whatever is available.
Also, the location is indeed a bit"hidden". For your first visit, I suggest using your GPS and keeping a close eye on the roadside, otherwise, it's very easy to miss.
