Every time I chat with friends from Gresik, I always hear this one complaint: “If I want to go to a decent mall, I have to make a special trip to Surabaya!” Anjay, who even does that anymore?[1] Gresik has its own awesome mall, Gressmall, isn't it great? My impression after visiting: Small but has it all
To be honest, Gressmall's size can't compare to the giants in Jakarta, but its strength lies in being refined and comfortable[3]. The whole space is designed to be modern and elegant, the walkways are spacious, and the AC is strong, and most importantly, it's super clean and tidy, making it really chill to walk around～
The brand selection is also quite complete. If you want to buy daily necessities, there's Hypermart; for department store goods, there's Matahari; for movies, there's XXI[4]; for coffee, there's J.Co, basically a one-stop shop for eating, drinking, and having fun. And I found that it's not just a shopping center, but more like a community hub. I often see them holding various baking classes, family activities, and even career seminars[5], bringing the whole community to life, Mantap!
But to be fair…
I have to point out a downside, it's not very friendly for the elderly or friends with mobility issues! The entire mall only has one elevator, and it doesn't even go directly into the mall[6]! You still have to take a few stairs to get inside, I'm speechless about this design... I hope they can improve it soon, otherwise it's a bit of a shame for such a nice environment.
