Every time I drive to Puncak, finding a place to eat along the way is like opening a blind box. This time, I randomly walked into this Sundanese restaurant, Bumi Pasundan, on the side of the road in Bogor, and it actually gave me a bit of a pleasant surprise. 😂
The vibe felt right as soon as I walked in, a classic Sundanese style. The huge parking lot is extremely friendly for those who drive. A few of us went straight for a large gazebo (Saung) to sit down. The space is super spacious, perfect for bringing the whole family to Nongkrong[1].
Here comes the main event! The Sayur Asem[2] (tamarind soup) here is actually free with unlimited refills! And the flavor is super authentic—sweet, sour, and appetizing. I downed two bowls in one go. Also, their Sambal[3] is so spicy it makes you gasp, but you just can't stop eating it. Definitely a dish for those who love strong flavors, Mantap! We also ordered the Ayam Kampung Goreng[4] (fried free-range chicken), but the flavor was on the lighter side, pretty standard I'd say. Overall, the portion sizes are generous[5], so you don't have to worry about not getting full.
While we were eating, we saw the table next to us celebrating a birthday, and the restaurant actually organized seven or eight staff members to come over with musical instruments to celebrate. The scene was super festive[6], so if your extroverted friends celebrate their birthday here, they're definitely in for a surprise!
But, to be honest…
Although the atmosphere is very Chill, to be honest, I have to dock some points for the environmental details. The pond next to our gazebo was a bit green[7], and there were a few stray cats wandering around occasionally, so neat freaks might mind a little. Taste-wise, it's also quite subjective. I absolutely loved the tamarind soup and Sambal, but my friends who were with me felt that some dishes were a bit bland[8], the kind that's just okay, nothing special.
