JSI Resort Bogor: Family Adventure Review | Qpon X

Tired of Jakarta's traffic jams and honking horns, I hit the gas over the weekend and escaped into the embrace of Bogor. My Xiaohongshu and Instagram feeds have been spammed with this place, JSI Resort Megamendung, for a while now. With Jeeps and container houses all over the mountainside, it looks wild and fun—a paradise for boys and... big boys!

The air is genuinely amazing. One deep breath full of the scent of grass and earth, and the stress from work just melts away. The entire resort is built on a mountainside, so green you don't know where to look. It really has that Chill vibe of escaping the city to Nongkrong in the mountains[1]. The staff are also super enthusiastic, greeting you with a smile every time. The service is very Indonesian, very warm and friendly[2].

A paradise for parents with kids... or is it?

There are so many activities here, enough to completely drain the energy of your little monsters. ATV, paintball, off-road experiences, plus a mini zoo and a well-maintained children's playground[3]. It's no problem for the kids to go wild in there for a whole afternoon. The breakfast buffet also deserves high praise. The selection is huge, with everything from Indonesian fried rice to Western bread. The taste is Mantap[4]!

What surprised me the most was the Kayu Spa[5], an absolute sanctuary for us moms! The environment is serene, the therapists are professional, and after the session, I felt like I could go back and battle my little beasts for another three hundred rounds.

Real talk, this might make you think twice

Alright, enough with the praise. Time for some honest truth.

First, be mentally prepared for a long queue at check-in, especially on weekends! We arrived at 1 PM and had to wait until almost 3 PM to get our room key. Even though the front desk lady kept apologizing, the anxiety of waiting was seriously Anjay[6]…

Second, the room's "wild charm" was a bit too much. We stayed in a container room. It had a cool design, but the details left much to be desired. Cobwebs in the corners, geckos popping out to say hi every now and then, and a TV that was perpetually buffering with a malfunctioning remote[7]—it was a bit maddening. For my friends who are looking for a refined accommodation experience, this place might disappoint you.

Finally, and this is the biggest deal-breaker: the noise! If you're a light sleeper, you really need to think twice! Our room was near the river, so you could hear the water rushing all night. The guys in the villa next door were still doing KTV in the middle of the night, and the call to prayer from the nearby mosque started promptly at 4 AM... It was like a 3D surround sound attack[8].

Overall, if you're coming to let your kids run wild and enjoy outdoor activities, the facilities here are definitely worth the price. But if you're looking for the refined service and absolute quiet of a five-star hotel, then... you might want to look at other options

🚗 Transportation: The location is super remote, and ride-hailing apps are basically useless. You must drive yourself! On weekends, be aware of Puncak's famous "Buka Tutup" traffic control system[9], so check your route in advance. Novice drivers should try to avoid driving that mountain road after dark.
🏠 Room Selection: Families with kids, definitely do not choose the Sahara room type; it's so small you can barely turn around[10]. If you're sensitive to noise, make sure to add a note in your booking: “jauh dari sungai dan area publik” (far from the river and public areas).
⏰ Timing: The resort is huge, and you have to wait for a shuttle to get anywhere. During peak hours, waiting for the shuttle also takes time[11], so don't pack your schedule too tightly.
🍴 Food & Drink: Go all out for the breakfast buffet! But the dinner BBQ is just average[12]. It's not great value for money; you're better off driving out to find food elsewhere.
