Discover Tarobun, a humble Jakarta bakery that’s a true hidden gem for taro lovers. Don't expect a fancy café for photos; this is a simple, takeaway-only spot focused on quality. The main attraction is their signature bun, overflowing with a generous, authentic filling made from real taro chunks. It’s a no-frills, grab-and-go delight for anyone who prioritizes incredible taste over ambiance. This spot is a must-try for serious taro enthusiasts.
I was randomly scrolling through the map and saw this shop called Tarobun, the name is super straightforward—Taro Bun. What's even funnier is that it only had a mere 8 reviews on Google Maps. Isn't this just asking a veteran foodie like me to be the guinea pig? Alright, let's take a gamble! After all, I can't resist anything taro. 🤷♀️
The shopfront is small, right in the city of Jakarta, a very typical streetside take-away shop. The decor is very simple, you could even say plain, but as soon as you get close, the aroma of freshly baked taro wafts over. It's not an artificial fragrance, but the smell of real ingredients. My impression of it instantly went up!
I blindly ordered their signature Taro Bun. I broke it open, and Anjay! The taro filling inside is so generous! You can see distinct taro chunks, definitely not that smooth, mass-produced taro paste. It's dense and smooth in my mouth, the sweetness is also just right, not cloying at all. It's simply Mantap with an iced Americano! This is the taste of a product made with care.
But let's be honest, girls, don't get your hopes up too high. This place really isn't suitable for taking photos for the 'gram or to Nongkrong for a few hours. It's purely a shop that sells bread, and the product range isn't very wide at the moment, basically revolving around taro. Those looking for a place to Chill for an afternoon can skip this one.
So my advice is:
Overall, it's a bakery with great taste that I would buy from again, but it's really not a café! I've scouted it out for you this far, whether you want to go for it is up to you! 😉

The NSNTR buffet at PIK Mercure boasts a 4.7-star rating, but is it worth the hype? This review reveals a dining experience that’s a total gamble. While the stunning 8th-floor view and surprisingly good sashimi are major draws, be warned. The "à la carte buffet" style means painfully slow service, and overall food quality is a mixed bag. Discover if the beautiful ambiance is enough to outweigh the inconsistent food and frustrating service before you book your table.

Craving next-level Indomie? Ropang Plus Plus in Pluit serves up incredible instant noodle creations, like their must-try Salted Egg Indomie and addictive Tahu Cabe Garam. This spot is a bustling late-night hangout perfect for groups. But here's the heads-up: expect long queues of over an hour and a very smoky atmosphere, as there's no non-smoking area. It’s a lively, chaotic experience for those who don't mind the wait or the smoke.

Tired of noisy massage parlors? This Japanese spa in Pluit is an introvert's dream come true. Escape the city buzz and unwind in a serene, Zen-like atmosphere with true private rooms—no flimsy curtains here! Enjoy a professional, customizable massage from skilled therapists. The best part? Refuel afterward with complimentary ginger tea and a comforting bowl of hot chicken congee. It’s the ultimate affordable escape for total relaxation and privacy in Jakarta.

Curious about Jakarta's viral Pangsit Goreng Bu Tin? This spot is drawing massive crowds for its signature "fat" fried wontons. These plump, "gemoy" dumplings are stuffed with generous chicken filling and tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce with a rich wok aroma. But be warned: the queues are notoriously long and the spice has a real kick! Find out if these famous wontons are truly worth the hype and learn the essential trick to skip the hour-long wait.
