Having been around South Jakarta for so long, I've been to my fair share of rooftop bars, but I've never seen one as schizophrenic as KARUMBA. 🤷♀️
I originally went for the incredible night view from the 19th floor of the Mercure hotel. As soon as the elevator doors opened, I was hit with Caribbean-style tropical decor—so colorful and quite photogenic. I thought to myself, isn't this the standard setup for a date or a Nongkrong session? But before I could even get my seat warm, Metallica started blasting in my ears?! Anjay! What happened to the romantic ballads? It instantly turned into a rock concert!
Now let's talk about the food; the flavors were also quite surreal.
Finally, for those of you who want to check it out, here are the key points:

Tucked away in Senopati, BEBOP is an intimate Japanese bar where the music is the main event. This spot is a haven for R&B and Afro music fans, offering a "listening room" vibe that's perfect for a chill night out. While the cocktails might be on the sweeter side, the atmosphere is top-notch and the surprisingly delicious Takoyaki is a must-try. For those who prioritize great tunes over strong booze, BEBOP is the place to be.

This South Jakarta cafe is a real mixed bag. While the amazing coffee—especially the Japanese Drip made with beans from their own estate—might just save your soul, a heads-up on the ambiance is needed. A heavy smell of secondhand smoke drifts down from the second floor, impacting the whole space. If you can brave the haze, the delicious panini and friendly staff make it a worthy stop. Otherwise, consider getting your fantastic coffee to-go.

Tired of gelato that's sickeningly sweet? A kiosk in Jakarta's Pacific Place is changing the game with its less-sugary treats. Discover refreshingly natural flavors like the zesty Mango Sorbet and the perfectly balanced Choco Roche. Even the cones are praised for their subtle taste! It's the ideal guilt-free dessert for a quick shopping break. While there's no seating, the authentic taste makes it a must-try stop for anyone with a sweet tooth.
