Girls, I just got back from Semarang and I have to give you some warnings, but also some recommendations. This time I went to the famous mountaintop coffee shop, Pondok Kopi Umbul Sidomukti.
Let me get straight to the point: it was half heaven, half hell. 😅
The road up the mountain literally made me sick, no exaggeration. The road is narrow and steep, and several times when another car was passing, I felt like we were going to scrape against each other. My heart was in my throat the whole time. And definitely don't fully trust Google Maps[1], it will literally lead you to a dead end! Anjay! I suggest following the road signs or asking the locals. For friends who aren't confident in their driving skills or whose cars aren't in the best condition, I urge you to think twice[2].

But! The moment you park your car, probably still cursing under your breath, and walk to the viewing deck, it's all worth it. That view, Mantap! So magnificent I was at a loss for words. Below you are layers of valleys and clouds, and in the distance are the twinkling lights of the city. The air is cool and crisp, mixed with the fresh scent of earth and plants, so healing. The whole place is a giant, natural photo spot[3], and any random snapshot looks unbelievably beautiful.
We ordered their signature, house-grown and roasted Arabica Sidomukti Coffee[4], and the beans are supposedly grown right on this mountain[5]. The pour-over version was pretty good, with a unique sweetness. A pleasant surprise was the Grilled Banana[6]—it was grilled just right, fragrant, sweet, and soft. Delicious! I heard the Soup Iga[7] (beef rib soup) is also amazing, but I didn't have room to try it this time. You guys should go for it.

Honestly, coming here is basically "paying for the view and getting free coffee". Besides those few signature items, don't have high expectations for the other food[8]. The taste is very... well, you know. Prices are in the mid-to-high range, but it's a tourist spot, after all. There's also a separate entrance fee of 5k-15k Indonesian Rupiah. Just think of it as a "view tax" for the incredible scenery.
