This veteran Bistro under the Union Group has been open in Mega Kuningan for 17 years[1], making it practically a living fossil in Jakarta's dining scene. Whenever friends visit and I'm not sure where to take them for an apero (pre-dinner drink), I always think of this place. But after my recent visit, I have mixed feelings…
Love the Vibe, Hate the Vibe
The moment you walk in, you're hit with that familiar New York Bistro vibe: the long bar, the dim yellow lighting, the well-dressed white-collar workers, and the expats[2] chatting in various languages. When it comes to atmosphere, Loewy really has the whole vibe thing nailed down. Coming here for brunch during the day, or to nongkrong with your girlfriends in the afternoon, is really chill.
As for the food, it's a mixed bag. The French toast[3] for brunch is as reliable as ever, slightly crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, with just the right amount of sweetness.
