I was just planning to find a random cafe to sit at in the Tiban area of Batam, but then... anjay, I actually struck gold! A cafe that perfectly solves the universal problem of "adults want to chat, kids need to burn off energy."
A Cafe? No, It's an All-Rounder!
This place is called Amati Coffee, and it has two floors. The first floor has strong AC, a top choice for those who can't stand the heat. I prefer the second floor, which is like an open-plan loft. The lighting is warm, and the vibe is super cozy[1], curling up by the window to watch the street view, the whole afternoon just flies by.
And the most important part is! The second floor actually has a kids' corner! There are picture books and toys[2], my kid was basically "sealed" there, and this old mom could finally drink a cup of coffee in peace, can you believe it?! 😭
Don't think it's just a "family-friendly cafe"; the food and drinks are definitely not a letdown. I wasn't expecting much, but their Sop Iga[3] was absolutely amazing from the first bite! The beef was stewed until it was fall-off-the-bone tender, and the broth was incredibly savory. The Nasi Goreng[4] my friend ordered also came in a huge portion and tasted authentic. The coffee was an even bigger surprise. The Espresso[5] was consistently good, with a perfect balance of acidity and bitterness, not like some carelessly made sugary coffee.
But, to be real for a second...
It's not without its flaws, though. Last time I tried one of their noodle dishes, and the texture was a bit too mushy (mie-nya agak benyek), so I hope the shop can improve on that[6]. Also, if you're driving, parking can be a bit tight. During peak hours, you'll have to rely on luck[7]. If you're coming in a large group of more than 5 people, finding a comfortable spot can also be a bit of a challenge[8].
