Sip of the Week

1. The Wolf Espresso
Friendly baristas serve espresso with a city view
“First time came in here, the place is so cozy. They combine the green space and buildings, like industrial cafe inside urban forest Upon arrival, the staff at the cashier was friendly. They greeted me and handle my order quickly. I ordered the Chai Latte. Too pricey to be honest. 42k IDR equals to around 2.6 USD just for small sized cup, but the taste is worth to try. You can taste the spices from the chai and smooth finish with the milk combination. Should've request with less ice, otherwise it'll get watery Great spot if you want some alone time if there's not much customer. Probably best at weekdays between 10 am to 1 pm. Not suitable for non-smoker customers. However, if you don't want to be disturbed by the smoke, just find further seat away from the smoker. Of course, if you lucky enough to find the seats that are far from them. The cleanliness was excellent. I saw 1 cleaning worker walking around the area, carrying broom and dustpan. 8/10, would visit again and ordered different drinks.”

2. Toko Kopi TUKU - Blok M
Fast, reliable coffee—TUKU never disappoints, always a solid caffeine stop.
“Great place for coffee takeaway or hangout, not very large space but cozy and modern ambience. It is considered as one of the best coffee shop around Blok M area. Food and beverage price is considered affordable and the quality you get is worth the price. Many variants of hot and cold coffee drinks. I really enjoyed having espresso here. I ordered espresso such as hot Kopi Tetangga, which is one of their best sellers. I even bought their signature Kopi Tetangga coffee beans for my drink at home. I highly recommend this place to people who are looking for excellent coffeeshop.”

3. Toko Kopi TUKU - GBK, Senayan
Viral coffee with long queue & super tasteful!

6. Matcha Bae
Vibrant matcha lattes & desserts—fun, colorful treats!
“Matcha Bae is truly a paradise for matcha lovers because they serve variant of beverages and desserts with matcha based, and definitely with a good taste! The place is crowded, especially that time we came on a Saturday night. Luckily, we still got an available seat. So, for the matcha, they provide 3 types of matcha, such as TAMA from Shimane that has a seaweed taste, WAKANA from Fukuoka that has a nutty taste, and UKI from Kyoto, Nara, Kagoshima that is the one the the lightest matcha taste. Each has different price. If you're a matcha fan, go with Tama and Wakana. I tried both and I like Wakana the most because I like nutty taste. I requested both made into Matcha Latte. We could choose fresh milk or oat milk. If you choose oat milk, there will be an additional cost. The sugar level is available from 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, and 0%. For the desserts, the serve Matcha Purin, Matcha Citrus Cheese Cake, Matcha Injeolmi Cake, Matcha Scones, Matcha Cream Cheese Cookie. We tried Matcha Injeolmi Cake (IDR 58,000). This tall sliced cake is so so good and less sweet! A combination of soft matcha cake, matcha cream, and injeolmi (Korean rice cake with peanuts and soya beans). Recommended! It's a perfect companion to enjoy with the matcha drink.”
7. A Roastworks
Specialty coffee that’s bold and smooth.

8. NAKA COFFEE AND COCKTAILS
Coffee and cocktails in a stylish space.
“I've actually been bored with doing "Work From Cafe", but since I had some paper to do, I decided that I might as well do a "Work From Cafe", but make it alcoholic instead (oops). I had the Aperol Spritz, karaage, and gyoza. The Aperol Spritz was good and refreshing, with a relatively good price as well. The karaage and gyoza, though? Both blew my mind as they were SO GOOD. I can tell that both of them are handmade, or at least, not something manufactured by your usual food manufacturer, as it has a distinctive homemade flavor to it. The karaage is perfectly seasoned and marinated, with strong ginger and garlic flavor to it, which reminds me of the homemade Japanese karaage I had when I lived in Japan. The gyoza, too, was thick, juicy, and delicious. I'd absolutely come here again for another alcoholic version of "WFC" session, while having karaage and gyoza on the side.”

9. Rene Cafe
Cozy place to work, light milk coffee that hits just right.
10. Espresso Embassy Coffee Roasters
Fresh beans, strong flavor, great aftertaste.
“Apparently this is one of the new kids on the block (as many of new emerging coffee shops in Jakarta) but it feels like they are already excelling in the coffee game in Jakarta for a long time. I visited here on 24th of October and they are just opened for three days. Espresso Embassy Coffee Roasters 2.0 as they would call it, as the 1.0 was a small shop in the vicinity of Senayan, where they just offered roasted beans back then. The visit was one of the best so far during my visit back home. So let's get started with the review (or more like an afternoon story). The coffee shop is located just near Permata Hijau. So when you come from Pondok Indah, just go straight past ITC Permata Hijau and turn left after the traffic light. Right after that you will find the owner holding the shop's sign (according to his Instagram, AFAIK). Upon entering the premise, you will be greeted with the smell of freshly roasted coffee. Yes, you heard it. Freshly roasted coffee. The cafe offers an RDT (ready to drink) roasting method for buying coffee beans to take home or to drink straightaway. It's sold in 100g batches and you can ask the staff to roast it for you or you can roast it by yourself using the available machines there. To buy a drink here you will have two different options: 1. You can buy as usual based on the beans used to make your drink and the prices vary from beans to beans. 2. There is a subscription method, where you can buy a 100gr beans (depending on which regions) and every drink will only cost 15k to make (be it espresso or cappuccino or filter coffee) With this subscription method you can basically save some money and the remaining beans will be reserved for one month. The cafe will contact you one week before the reservation date is passed. What I like about my visit here also is the hospitality of the crew and also the owner kindly spent some time to chat with the customers coming to his shop. He basically told us stories on how the cafe was established and where it sources the coffee. The crew is also attentive, even if it was just their first three days. Everything went smoothly. The coffee here is great, especially the Colombia Arcilla Lulo, which is a really fruity but also clean coffee to be brewed as filter. Although the snack option is still fairly limited to pastries, I would like to see them expanding a bit more, but still retaining the quality of their coffee. I would like to visit again someday in the coming months and I hope they can thrive amidst the emerging and brutal competition of coffee shops in Jakarta. I also want to thank Mas Deni and his crew for their amazing hospitality. I wish other big coffee establishments in Jakarta can also match the blueprint of the hospitality made by this coffee shop.”
