Heads-up, though: the food and service are a total gamble. For a guaranteed good meal, stick to the Nasi Goreng Kampung and pizza. It's a solid choice for smokers who can overlook the inconsistent experience, but non-smokers and foodies might want to steer clear.
Just arrived at the entrance of The Darwin's Theory in Kelapa Gading, and I was almost fooled by its facade surrounded by green plants, thinking it was another one of those minimalist, artsy cafes. But once I went inside, damn, it was smoky, but the AC was blasting! It's practically a holy land for Nongkrong, tailor-made for us heavy smokers! Anjay! 😮💨
The ambiance is nice, but the food and service are like opening a mystery box…
To be fair, the decor here has that stylish bistro lounge vibe, and the sofas are quite comfy to sit on[1], perfect for coming to chill with friends. But! The"theory of evolution" experience starts right from ordering; it's a total"survival of the fittest" situation.
Take my advice, don't risk ordering the wrong thing, and go straight for their Nasi Goreng Kampung[2]! The portion is huge, it's packed with that wok-fried aroma, and the taste is truly Mantap. My friend's Pizza[3] was also a safe bet, with a thin crust and crispy edges, perfect with a glass of beer. 🍰 I heard their chocolate cake[4] is also good, and the price is reasonable too, but unfortunately, I didn't have room for it this time.
BUT! Don't get too confident. I was the brave soul who decided to challenge the steak, and the result... Anjay... it was both salty and tough, felt like my teeth were doing pull-ups[5]. My friend's Nachos[6] were even more ridiculous. Where was the promised guacamole? What the hell was this plate of spicy tuna with tomato sauce? Does the chef have some misunderstanding of"evolution"?
Service? Non-existent…
The thing I want to complain about the most is the service. No matter how good the ambiance is, it can't make up for terrible service. The food comes out whenever. I waited almost an hour for my pizza, and only after I asked twice did they tell me the oven was broken...[7] What??? Also, a server didn't even know what chili flakes were, and to top it off, they overcharged me for two eggs on the final bill[8]. It was just ridiculous. So tiring. I'm so done.
