Every time I pass by SCBD, I'm always drawn in by the elegant and seemingly expensive atmosphere of Bottega Ristorante. Finally, last weekend, I met up with my girls to check it out. Honestly, the moment I pushed open the door, I felt like I had walked into an old European movie. The decor and lighting are so on point, posting a photo on social media would definitely get a ton of likes.
But… less than ten minutes after sitting down, I started questioning my life choices. What's going on? The air was filled with the smell of smoke! 🚬
The Food Experience: Half Heaven, Half Hell
We started ordering with a"well, we're already here" attitude. To be fair, some of the dishes were actually pretty good.
The signature Bottega Steak Frites[1] I ordered was cooked just right, juicy and tender—a safe bet. My friends rated the desserts highly, saying the Tiramisu and Honeycomb Cake[2] were really Mantap, which kind of saved the reputation of the meal. There was even a Porcini Coffee Rubbed Steak[3] that sounded strange, but was apparently surprisingly good.
However, the disappointments were just as shocking. The pesto on another pasta dish was actually sweet[4], Anjay! What kind of weird creation is that? Some other dishes tasted like they weren't fresh from the pan at all, and I seriously suspect they were just reheated leftovers[5], with a dry and tough texture. The consistency of the food is like opening a blind box...
Real Talk: Your Wallet and the Service—One Is Always Hurting
To be honest, the value for money here is really not great. Including drinks, it's easily over 350k Indonesian Rupiah per person, but the experience you get in return is so inconsistent. But the biggest turn-off was the service[6]; you couldn't feel any warmth from them the entire time, it took forever to get a waiter's attention, and the serving order was a mess. They bring out the appetizers and main courses all at once—are they trying to rush you to eat and leave? 😅

If you still want to go just for the ambiance and to check in on social media, you should really listen to this honest advice:
- ‼️ The Biggest Pitfall: The Smell of Smoke! The non-smoking and smoking areas are not effectively separated at all, and the entire space is filled with second-hand smoke[7]. For those who are sensitive to smoke, have kids, or are looking for a pure culinary experience, I'd advise you to just skip this place.
- ☎️ Reservations are a must! Especially on weekends and evenings, otherwise, you probably won't get a table, or you'll be moved around between awkward corner seats[8]. Don't expect a good experience as a walk-in.
- 🧘♀️ Lower Your Expectations for Service: Just chill and adjust your mindset. Treat it as just a nicely decorated spot to nongkrong by yourself, and don't have any high hopes for the service. You'll be lucky if you can just place your order smoothly.
- 🚗 Parking Strategy: Parking here is limited and expensive (regular parking is 30k, valet is 50k[9]). You can consider parking at the nearby Bengkel Space and then take a two or three-minute stroll over. You'll even save enough for a cup of coffee.
- Girls rave about the Tiramisu and Honeycomb Cake[1] – they're Mantap, a sweet knockout that saves any meal.
