Over the weekend in Palembang, I was looking for a place to Nongkrong with friends and ended up getting recommended Fish In Fun. Honestly, I was shocked when I got to the entrance; it was so crowded I almost thought there was some kind of event going on. The place isn't big, and it was packed to the brim during peak hours. I was a bit worried about the experience... but since we were already there, we decided to just go for it!
There were a lot of us, so we went straight for the 260k set menu, which was supposedly for 5 people. But when it arrived, all 7 of us were stunned. The sauce was super rich, poured directly onto the paper-lined table, with crabs, shrimp, and clams all mixed together. Besides the seafood, I was pleasantly surprised to find that their Ikan Dori Crispy[3] was also exceptional. The fried dory fish had a crispy skin, while the meat inside was thick and tender. Dipped in their special sambal sauce, one bite was just Mantap! My friend also ordered a Creamy Cheese Pasta[4], which I didn't have high hopes for, but it turned out to be surprisingly delicious. But to be fair, you can't expect too much from the ambiance. The space inside is small, the AC isn't very strong, and sometimes you have to rely on the big fans to survive.[5] And the weirdest part is, there's no restroom in the restaurant. You have to go to the hotel next door to use the restroom[6], which is a little awkward. Also, because the place is so popular, some seafood items like lobster are often sold out.[7] It's best to ask the staff what's available today before ordering to avoid disappointment.
