Every time I come to Sumatra, all I can think about are the various spices and beef rendang. As for coffee? To be honest, I didn't have high expectations🤷♀️.
But then, on a street corner in Padang, I was totally schooled by this shop called Rimbun. A 14-year-old veteran, Anjay, this is the true spirit of Indonesian coffee! The entrance looks pretty unremarkable, but the aroma of coffee had already wafted out to greet me.
A Cup to Capture Your Soul, No Arguments
As soon as I sat down, I went straight for their signature Solok Espresso[1]. Wow! The smoothness on the first sip, with its bright fruity notes and sweetness, was completely free of any bitter or unpleasant aftertaste. After finishing it, I felt like my whole soul had been awakened, Mantap!👍
My friend's Cold Brew[2] was also amazing; he said it was the best he'd had recently. I snuck a sip, and it was indeed crisp and clean, with a long-lasting aftertaste. I saw on the menu that their Vietnam Drip[3] is highly praised by the locals, so I have to come back and try it next time.
I chatted with the super cool barista behind the counter and found out that not only do they know their lokal beans inside and out, but they've also won numerous professional competition awards[4]—no wonder their quality is so consistent. But, gotta say, this place is really popular. We went in the afternoon and almost couldn't get a seat[6]. If you want to Chill comfortably, you either have to go early or be prepared to wait for a table. There is, however, an indoor smoking area upstairs, which is great for friends who smoke.
