Friends, who gets it! Every time I pass by Penggilingan in East Jakarta, I'm reminded of this old-school cake shop. Long-time fans will definitely remember it used to be called Yes Bakery[1]; it was basically the king of bakeries in this area. Recently, I found out it quietly changed its name to LINDAYES. I went in for a look out of nostalgia, but my feelings are a bit mixed…
Praise first, then roast. The taste is genuinely great
I mean, to be fair, the taste and texture of the cake itself are impeccable. The cake is super soft and bouncy, and you can tell from the first bite they use good ingredients, not that cheap artificial flavoring taste. Especially their cheese-flavored cake[2], the amount of cheese they use is so generous, the flavor is incredibly rich, Mantap! 👍 A friend of mine who also loves baking said their ingredients are truly premium[3] and worth the price.
BUT! The quality control is really a bit hit-or-miss…
Here comes the plot twist! After praising the good parts, I have to complain a bit. Their quality control is really like opening a blind box… Their signature pandan chiffon[4] used to be my favorite, but recently I heard a friend had a bad experience, getting it home only to find the cake had gone sour, and there wasn't even an expiration date on the packaging! Isn't that move a bit Anjay? The quality control department really needs to get its act together! 🙄
Another small complaint, I don't know if they changed bakers, but the skill level of the decorative writing on the cakes has visibly declined recently[5]. It's not as exquisite and pretty as before, which kind of ruins the mood for gift-giving.
