Girls, I just got back from Tropical Temptation in Uluwatu, and I have mixed feelings… I had to write up a real-talk guide on what to avoid and what's worth it for you all right away!
To sum it up in one sentence: This place is absolutely gorgeous, but the pitfalls are pretty deep. Thinking of going? Read this first!
A Dreamy Start, I Almost Thought I Was the Chosen One
Honestly, when I first arrived at Melasti Beach and saw it for the first time while winding down the cliff road, I was truly stunned. The deep blue Indian Ocean, the pure white modern design, multiple infinity pools… every shot is an Insta-worthy masterpiece. The vibe was maxed out, and I felt like I was there for a Vogue photoshoot. 😎
We found a sofa bed to lie on, the morning music was still very Chill, the waiter was super friendly, and everything seemed too perfect to be true. I thought to myself: Those 4.7 stars on Google are no joke.
Food and Vibe: A Mix of Heaven and Hell
The food situation was a real love-hate affair for me!
👍 Highly recommend: Their Pitaya Bowls (dragon fruit bowls) are on point with both looks and taste[1], with a super rich texture. The Popcorn Chicken and Fries were also surprisingly delicious[2], the portion was generous, a proper "adult-sized" meal that actually fills you up.
👎 Complaints: But! Some dishes were a bit Anjay… my friend's beef sandwich was actually half-raw[3], and my salad came with no dressing at all, so bland it was like eating grass. The cocktails and coffee were just average, and a single coconut water costs 110k IDR[4]. The value for money really isn't great.
Also, after 2 PM, once the DJ gets going, the volume is cranked to the max. It feels like your eardrums are raving[3]. For those of you who want to Nongkrong quietly, definitely don't pick a spot near the DJ, or you'll have to shout to have a conversation.
The Truth: The "Unwritten Rules" Nobody Tells You
Okay, enough with the praise, let's get to some unpleasant truths.
First, although the club itself is very clean, the stretch of beach it faces… has a fair bit of plastic trash[5]. For a place that markets itself as a high-end experience, this is really inexcusable. It's enough to make anyone with OCD clench their fists.
Second, it's advertised as "adults only," but because the beach is a public area, you'll still see kids running around in your line of sight[2]. If this bothers you, you'll need to manage your expectations.
The Ultimate Guide to Avoiding the Traps (Must-read! Or you'll lose out big time!)
This is the most important part, so take out your notebooks and jot this down!
So, is it worth going?
If you're just there to take epic photos, pick a spot with no minimum spend, order a drink, and leave after you get your shots, then it's absolutely Mantap! But if you're looking to have a good meal and Chill quietly for an afternoon, Bali has many better options. 😉
- 1. 🚗 【The Transport Trap! Key Point!】 This is what I want to complain about the most! When you leave, this area is a No-Go Zone for Grab/Gojek! You can only take their partner Lokal taxis, and the price is N times higher than ride-sharing apps. They'll rip you off without a second thought[4]. Want to save money? Your only option is to bite the bullet and walk 10 minutes up the hill to be able to hail a car.
- 2. 💰 【The Minimum Spend Game】 The daybeds by the pool have a minimum spend starting at 2 million IDR[2]. But! There are actually many areas with no minimum spend, where you can still use the pool and public spaces for free[6]. If you just want to come, take some photos, have a swim, and leave, you can totally just chill at zero cost.
- 3. 👜 【Entry Check】 Your own towels, food, and water will be "politely" held for you at the entrance and returned when you leave. Renting a towel inside costs about 50k-60k IDR[7].
