At first, when my friend brought me to this place called Kampung Kecil (Little Village), I was thinking, isn't this just a farmhouse-style restaurant, how great can it be? But as soon as I walked in and saw a photo of the President and Vice President on the wall[1], I was completely stunned! That's some serious clout! I had to try it for you guys!
Immersive "Village" Dining, Super Chill
I was truly amazed the moment I walked in; the whole restaurant is like a small village built on water. It's all individual wooden Saung (gazebos), with slowly flowing water and fish ponds right under your feet[2]. The privacy is great, and the ambiance is maxed out. When the lights come on in the evening, hanging out and chatting with friends here while you Nongkrong is just incredibly comfortable!
The dishes are classic Sundanese/Indonesian cuisine, and since we came for the "President's choice," we had to try the signature dishes:
- Pindang Patin[3]: This sour and spicy fish soup is truly Mantap! The fish is super fresh and tender, with no muddy taste at all. The broth is sour, spicy, and appetizing, and it goes perfectly with rice.
- Saus Telur Asin[4]: Salted egg yolk sauce is the GOAT! Coating the crispy fried shrimp or squid, it's savory, fragrant, and delicious—you just can't stop eating it.
- Fresh Coconut Water[5]: Highly recommend! The coconut water is ice-cold and super refreshing. The best part is that the coconut meat is incredibly tender; you can scrape it right off with a spoon. So satisfying.
Some real talk…
To be honest, although their slogan is "Royal taste, commoner's price"[6], I personally feel the prices aren't that "commoner-friendly." It's probably mid-to-high range for Lampung[7]. But considering the ambiance and the quality of the food, I think it's still worth it.
Also, the complimentary Lalapan (raw vegetables) portion felt a bit small[8]. Vegetable lovers like us might need to order an extra portion to have enough.
